Portici is a small and wealthy town overlooking the Gulf of Naples, full of cafés, restaurants and artisan ice-cream shops. But Portici is also the Royal Palace, the impressive Railway Museum of Pietrarsa, an aperitif at the port of Granatello at sunset. Located a few kilometers from Naples and right next to the excavations of Herculaneum, you can see why Portici was a fixed stop for young intellectuals on the ‘Grand Tour' of Europe in the 18th century. Today the Antiquities and the natural spectacle of the Vesuvius are still there, but if you stay over for a night, you will be surprised by a living city too!
