Nijmegen

Welcome to Nijmegen, also known as the city of the Waal river. A new tributary river arm of the Waal has just been dug out across the city center. Thanks to this gigantic project, meant to keep the city safe from flooding, we now have a brand new island in the middle of town!

Though the history of Nijmegen stretches back to The Roman Empire, you won't find a lot of historic buildings here, but plenty of young people thanks to the local universities. Nijmegen is well-known for its open and friendly character, as well as its progressive local politics which has gained the city the nickname of Havana on the Waal. For its small size we have an amazing number of terraces, cultural events, club nights, concept stores and micro-breweries. You can easily explore them all in this compact city and then find a river beach in walking distance, to wriggle your toes in the sand, relax and watch the ships go by.
